Final day at Sequoia National Park.....

September 29, 2013

Left our camper by about 9:00 in the morning, and headed out to do the Southern Loop of Sequoia National Park!

These trees are just SO AWESOME!    This area was just  short drive from our Campsite.  Most of the campgrounds have already closed for the season, but luckily, we got one of the last ones to close and we had very few other folks as neighbors...  The park stores and gift shops are closing in 2 weeks....

You just CANNOT imagine the SIZE of these trees!!!!!

This downed tree root section was HUGE!  and was actually used as shelter for cavalry soldiers and their mounts during the construction of the park. Den is standing at the big entrance..

this is the inside, where cots were placed and used as shelter...
Even the horses were kept under here at times..

Here is a "hole" in the side, where probably a branch once was, making a good 'window'...

And this is the other end of the log, basically, the 'back entrance!' LOL!

Here is a HUGE tree slice to try to show the SIZE of these things!

TEXTURE!!!!!!!!

This tree had a HUGE burl growing on it's side - Man! I would LOVE to see a bowl that could be carved out of THIS one!!!!

Old Baldy! At least that is what this hill is called......

TG got into the scene AGAIN!

Another tree growing out of a rock!

TEXTURE ALERT!!!!!

This is called the "Dead Giant".

ROOTS!!!!!!!

We FIT and room to SPARE!!!!!

Moss on this tree...

Chimney Tree..

Inside the Visitor's center museum.  I took this laying on my back to look like what you would see looking up inside a hollow tree!

Mountain views getting close to sunset - wonderful!

The Sequoia right at our campsite....

Heading on down the road tomorrow, to Barstow, then on farther on Tuesday - not sure when I will post again, not sure what we will have at our next campground!!!!

BUT CHECK BACK!  Hopefully it won't be long!

Planning to Celebrate our Anniversary tomorrow, the 30th!!!!  24 years now!!!!! YEEHAW!
