Haines Ferry to Skagway!

August 9, 2013

Pulled out of our VERY nice campground at Haines this morning - LOVE this small town!

Got down to the Docks about 10:30 to get our line number and then ran the slides out and had an early lunch! LOL!  Then we watched our Ferry come into the dock about 11:30.

About noon we started loading in to the bowels of the ship!  They really pack us in like Sardines in these ferries... This trip was $219.00 for both of us, and the truck and camper (50 feet long)..  LOTS less than driving the 370 miles AROUND to Skagway, when you consider in the cost of campground, fuel and at least 2 days of mountain driving.

This is right after we got underway for the hour long trip!

BREATHTAKING scenery ALL along the way!

Love our USA!!!

About 1/2 way to Skagway, we got close enough to see the glacier.

And a COLD mountain stream was GUSHING down the mountainside.

And another.

Two more pictures of the Glacier

And here we are at Skagway already!  There were 3 Cruise ships in port when we got here. Norwegian Cruise Line and 2 Carnival Cruise Line ships.  Quite a sight!!

Saw this sign after we unloaded, on our way through town to the opposite side of Skagway to our campground.
When we leave here on Wednesday morning, we will be heading back to Whitehorse..

Here is our Campground:  Garden City RV Park.. $38.50 per night... We will be here a total of 5 nights..  Very level sites, FHU, no cable (though it is advertised). Very weak wifi...  But My Verizon 3g iPad/hotspot SAVES the day!!!

Will make another post for Yesterday (10th and today, 11th) so STAY TUNED!
