Still here in Haines, and this is the town Library where we tried to get the internet to go, but it was too slow for all of these pictures and postings! LOL!
Looking down the street to this BEAUTIFUL view, in every direction!
Everywhere we go, we see the most wonderful carvings.. these next 3 are Carved in Rocks by a 75 year old gentleman.. He is now unable to do it, but walks all around town and visits with the visitors.. Everyone here is SO nice!
This gentleman is carving a Totem for the Alaskan Indian Arts building. He says it will take him about 6 months to complete... His name is Joe.
We decided to head out to the Fish cannery/packing plant and on the way out there, we saw a group of folks standing in the street with cameras and binoculars.. Found out they were watching this Eagle.. He was flapping his wings and the pro photographer who was there said that he has been watching this Eagle for weeks and had not SEEN him flapping, so we got a TREAT!!!! He was AWESOME!!
We saw this burned out fishing shack down the road from the Eagle.
Some of the buildings in this Sweet town...
On a drive later, we went past the Ship Dock and this was the view..
And around another curve, THIS.
Had lunch at this little "Fish and Chips" wagon - EXCELLENT, but spendy.. worth it...
A GIANT hammer in front of the "Hammer Museum".
Cruise Ship docked and we met LOTS of people from All over. They had flown to Anchorage and were hitting the main ports..
Another old shack....
On the way out to the Fish Cannery/packing plant....
And here is the Cannery/Packing plant.. it is a Family run business and they do a BIG business.
There are windows cut into the sides of the packing operation so you can watch the process.
This gal is working at the table with the "Foodsaver" type of device.. she placed the fish inside the bags, laid them on the one side of the table, pushed as much air out as she could, then lifted the handle of the machine and it lifted and then went down onto the bags, it vacced out the air, and then sealed the bags. They will be flash Frozen to be shipped or can be purchased right there.
Placing another batch of Salmon into bags.
Raising up and rotating the 'lid' over to the other side.
Pretty Slick operation!!!!! We bought a couple pounds of scallops. YUM!!
One last shot of the sign and plant in background.
Another 'Klingit' "fish" carving in front of a building...
This Totem is locally hand carved and stands about 5 feet tall in the Bamboo Restaurant and Pioneer Bar where we have had lunch and dinner this week.. It has been VERY memorable!!!
Here is the Restaurant - this used to be a BROTHEL in the '20's! LOL! VERY nice Folks and this is where I have been posting from the last couple of days - they have FREE wifi and LOTS of tables and the Food is EXCELLENT!!!!
So I have brought the laptop in and I have had my Alaskan Amber BEER that is MORE than Excellent!
And Finally, the LAST grouping of flowers that have been in pots and baskets all over this wonderful little town of Haines... One of my Favorite towns since we left home!!!
Picture of my "Duck Fart"!! LOL!
Back to camp last night and made a pizza! Thanks to Bruce for my crust recipe...
It was QUITE Tasty!!!!!
Don't know when I will be able to post again, as we will be on the Ferry in the morning for Skagway.. Then will be in Skagway for 5 nights..
