First thing this morning, we went driving around the small town of Stewart, BC - about 400 VERY friendly folks live here - Basic necessities can be taken care of in the few stores that are here. First thing, we encountered this Old "40's maybe??" Firetruck! (Hope my Son the Fireman sees this!!!)
As we continued to drive around, we saw the Sweet Little Church, still in use.
and the back side with the Beautiful Stained Glass Window
Map/sign so I can figure out where we are and where we are going! LOL!
Drove down to the Bay - this was taken out on the dock - at high tide the poles are not showing.
Very peaceful and restful sight to see...
As we drove farther through town, we stopped at the 'General Store' which contained things that campers might need... As I was walking up the steps to the place, the owner came out and whispered that I should look over on the side of the store - a Mother Bear and her 2 cute cubs were there!!!! I stood on the deck and snapped away!! One of the little ones was practicing his climbing skills while the other was watching.
Then she shooed them behind her and watched to make sure I was going to stay on the deck and not be a threat...
The Store owner says she wanders through town 2 or 3 times a day..
So when they had wandered on farther around the corner, we headed out to Fish Creek, hoping to see MORE bears out there where the Salmon are spawning - but on the way, we saw ANOTHER bear, just calmly walking across the road - they are so used to humans they seem unafraid....
The Bears AT Fish Creek were a "No show" but the Scenery was FABULOUS! I am going to print one of these lower pictures when we get home - it was very overcast that day so since then, I have taken a TON more to try to pick from..... This lagoon was the most BEAUTIFUL shade of blue! This was taken from the Bridge above the creek, safe from the bears who come to feed on the spawning salmon.. Sadly, no bears out there!!!
Here are a pair of the Salmon, the water is crystal clear.
On the drive back into Hyder from Fish Creek, we stopped at this same river, where it widens out and becomes a rushing torrent of water in Spring runoff.
Back to camp just in time for Dinner!
More pix tomorrow!
