Left Cache Creek this morning, and headed on down Canada 1, with beautiful rolling hills for the beginning part of the trip, then turning into deep gorges and fast moving rivers.. Followed the rails most of the trip as well, often with a railroad on EACH side of the river! These are all Narrow Gauge Railroads up here!
Lunch along the way - WONDERFUL SCENERY!
Then got to Hell's Gate Airtram - what a THRILL!
Went out to the viewing platform and then got our tickets and boarded.
A statue to commemorate Simon Fraser, for which this River is named.
Heading down in the tram. Words just don't do it justice!
WAYYY down below is the train going past. Trans Canadian RR.
And here down below were some brave white water rafters! Caught in the SWIRLY!
This is the walkway that you can walk on and then climb up the steps back to the top... ummm... no... tooo many steps!!!!
At the narrowest point the depth of this river here is between 100 and 150 FEET deep..!!
2 more rafts are farther down the river.
The 2nd of the 2 gondolas ... airborne!
Can't imagine the pressure of that water.....
Center is a vertical 'hole' in the wall of the rock, and that is one of the Salmon weirs, for the spawning fish... Too much debris was jamming up this location many years ago and these were constructed, so the fish can safely get through....
Opposite side of the tram, down below - nice gift shop, lunch room, and very educational films about the tram, railroads, fishways, and the Chinese immigrants and the part they played in the construction of this beginning in the 1880's.

This BEAUTIFUL carving of a Salmon is displayed outside the gift shop.
And the 3 carvings adorning the entrance to the Cafe.. Specialty of the house is Salmon Chowder! Sounded DELISH..

THIS plaque is the one above... see the red arrow? That is how HIGH that the water got in May of 1948...!!!!
And this cast iron cookstove, supposedly belonged to the Chinese cook who fed hundreds of workers here during construction.

Scenery the rest of the way down here to near Chilliwack for 2 nights... Wifi is FAB here, so I am FINALLY catching up on posts!!! HOORAH!!!!!!
Will be exploring more of the area here tomorrow - possibly Bridal Falls tomorrow, weather permitting... and if I REMEMBER, I will take pix of our campsite, as well...

Well you are both having a amazing trip!! Is there anywhere in the US and Canada you have not been???? LOL We are taking a trip in October but we won't be your way sadly We are going to Lancaster for a few days and then heading down South. Can't wait to see Missip/Lou/Al I love the History and anything about the Civil War and of course we picked the right year to visit as we both are interested in the Civil Rights. So not so much of a trip for goodies as History and Culture . Ro
