Date is wrong on this post, as we have not had good wifi to post as we went along!
Thursday June 13
 - we pulled out of our campground at Fort Nelson about 9:00 this morning in drizzle and 53 degrees..  THEN full out pouring rain and then heavy fog for quite a while..

Finally cleared a bit and I was able to get some great photos of the mountains with snow and the BEAUTIFUL clear rivers from the runoff.

Stopped frequently to enjoy the scenery and photos.  About 10:30 we came upon a sign that said 'Fresh Made Cinnamon Rolls' …. we looked at each other and said YUP!  and guess what! THAT was our lunch!  They were just taking them out of the oven - home made and FAB!  They were as big as saucers and cost $5.00 - but did I say "wonderful"???  YUP!  lol!  We ran into a LOT of people who were tired of running through the fog and saw the sign too! Met lots of people, some of them from Illinois actually KNEW where our small town is!
The roads so far from Dawson Creek to Munch Lake (about 150 miles to go to get to Watson Lake) have been quite nice - just 2 lane but no potholes or rough spots and PLENTY of spots to pull over for photo ops!

Arrived here at our campground (Northern Rockies Lodge) about 1:00, got our campsite and walked down to the Beautiful aqua lake - Munch Lake - it is STUNNING…

they had 2 sea planes there - one for 8 passengers and one for 3, so we decided to take the smaller one - and signed up! Met the pilot (only 27, but VERY good at his job!) and he was waiting for the clouds to lift from the lake on the far end (BIG mountain range there!),  so after we got settled, he came by our rig and said he could take us up in a few minutes if we wished, so I grabbed the camera and extra battery and we took off!  WOW!  What sights to see - it was just  majestic…  Aquamarine lake, mountain ranges with snow tops, and  just so cool!  We flew up to 6,000 feet, about 1500 feet above the tree line…

"Our plane" landing to return passengers and pick us up.

Take off!

clouds making shadows on the mountain

The Toad River on left, snaking down the mountain feeding the Munch Lake, highway on right.. Snow covered Mountain tops on the flight, reminds me of a drape of lace!

Here is the highway cutting a line between the mountain and the lake

We will be here another day, hoping they will give Den permission to wash the rig - it is FILTHY!!! I told him we should leave the dirt on as sort of a "Badge" to prove to people that we have been on ALL of the bad roads! LOL!!
Now time to relax and go down to the lake for sunset - about 10:15 p.m.  Then it takes till about 11:00 for it to get completely dark……

From the air, seeing our "Lodge" and campground, we are just to the left of the white building with the aqua roof.

Our Pilot, Kris.  Very nice young man, he and the wife live here year around

BTW: this big building is where 4 planes are stored here in the winter -
the 2 vertical "posts" actually slide to each side and then the door raises like a regular garage door.  Really neat!!

As we get closer and closer to the Yukon, the excitement is really beginning to build - you can just feel it in the air as our fellow campers are sort of leap frogging with us on the way up the road!!  We have been doing that for 3 campgrounds now, with 3 couples from Alabama!  All three have big 5th wheels.  There is another lady in her early 70's, who is traveling by herself in her new Wnnebago, a smaller one similar to the Navian (think that is what it was called)… She said that Alaska was on her "Bucket list", and she decided it was TIME!!.. Love her SPUNK!!  She is traveling with a Caravan by the name of "Fantasy RV Tours".. we asked her if she would drop us a line and tell us what she thought of that organization, how it was handled, worth it? etc.

Don't know if tomorrows post will be as interesting as the things we saw today, but  it is still another great day in paradise!
While he is washing the rig tomorrow, I might cook up something for our meals for the next few days - it has been very handy to have our meals ready to heat and eat!  Spaghetti sauce in the crockpot sounds good about now..  or a big pot of bean soup…. OR, I might just READ!!!!!!!!!!!  To be continued……….
