Pulled out of campground in Medicine Hat, a bit before 9:00 this morning, heading West on Trans Canada 1 again, and as we were leaving the city limits, we passed a really neat TeePee along side the road - turns out it was used in the Winter Olympics in Calgary and was destined to be destroyed. A local Medicine Hat businessman decided to bring it to Medicine Hat to save it.. with the help and contributions of many citizens it was accomplished.
On down the road heading West, and seeing acres and acres of grasslands, with herds of cattle grazing, many with new calves.. Also, occasionally seeing deer grazing among the cattle! Talked to a lady the other day who told us that most people in this area, prefer the flavor of grass fed beef over corn fed beef! I guess it is probably what you are raised on that determines your preference as an adult. For us, coming from the Midwest, and me being from a farm family, we were raised on our own Corn Fed beef and MUCH prefer it!
Gently Rolling countryside.
Ate our lunch in the camper at a rest area just East of Calgary and got our first sight of the CANADIAN ROCKIES!!! WOW! What a sight!!!! I was SO excited, I almost tinkled in my thong! LOL!
Turned North toward Edmonton, took turnoff for Wetaskiwin, and got to our campground about 3:00.. Set up camp and took off to get the lay of the town.. My paternal Grandmother was raised here in this area, and several of her siblings were born here.. She was actually born in Mille Lac, Minnesota.. I have her Baptismal certificate from 1898 (she was 6 years old at that time) .. We also have a copy of her birth certificate, so hoping to get more information perhaps.. We were too late today to find any place open for info - but will do more research tomorrow...
Campground in Wetaskiwin is very quiet, with grassy sites, and very level. We have NO TV as usual, but at $31.00 per night, pretty standard for the area. We made 341 miles today, and the temp got up to 77 degrees!
No wifi except at the office so no more to add! I am getting eaten up by SKEETERS!!!!
This is a great Blog. So much fun to follow you on your adventures! Be safe!
